Woman Still Missing After 10 Years Left: Maria Procopio CBS3 - PA, USA Sep 24, 2009 9:40 am US/Eastern Cold Case Still Unresolved After 10 Years Reporting Walt Hunter PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) Ten years ago Thursday, a local woman left her job at QVC and she was never seen or heard from again. The disturbing case still haunts her family and local police. For 10 years, those who love Maria Procopio have looked at the last known images of her leaving her job at QVC in West Chester wondering where she might be. "We all just have a piece of our heart just missing with her," Maria's sister Teresa Camino explained. For a decade, they have watched police search from the Poconos and beyond, to the streets of Philadelphia, always there are no answers. "Each holiday hurts just as much as the last one," Teresa said. "You just want to pick up the phone and call her and tell her what's happening, what's new?" It was September 24, 1999 when Procopio was last seen in a business district along West Chester Pike in Newtown Square. "That literally is the last time we have had any verifiable proof where she was and that she was still alive," Maria explained. Two weeks later, Maria's car was found in Bridgeport. It had been wiped so clean there wasn't a single fingerprint -- a strong indication foul play was involved. "We never, ever found her or any trace of her," Philadelphia Police Lt. Frank Vanore said. Now at Lieutenant, 10 years ago then Sgt. Vanore was among the first to investigate Maria's disappearance. As they have gathered evidence, police zeroed in on a former boyfriend of Maria's as a person of interest, but so far it's a dead end. "No one was ever charged in reference to her disappearance," Lt. Frank Vanore said. "Please clear your conscience, even after 10 years, give a gift to our family, a gift of peace," Teresa said. After 10 years, her family and police are more convinced each day that someone knows what happened to Maria.
